over 4 years. Before I went to England I knew of a gambling

house in Wa Lane. It was carried on either at No. 2 or No.5.

I knew of another at Cheung Hing Street. It was not always

open. The two houses have been since the great Plague year

off & on.

The houses were able to be kept open so long

pectors were bribed. I know the Inspector present. It is Ins-

pector Stanton. I believe that Inspector Stanton received

bribes. I myself paid bribes to new 43 Sergeant. I myself re-

ceived bribes. The bribes were paid to me not to arrest the

gamblers. I do not know why the Inspectors should be bribed

in addition to the Chinese Detectives.

Sergeantship to me if I would give evidence. I was brought

straight up from the vessel in which I arrived to the gaol.

have been asked about you. I made a statement to the Captain

Supt. of Police the day I arrived. It was not because I was

afraid of being charged myself that I made my statement. I

made it right away.`

I knew nothing of my knowledge about you re-

ceiving money .I have only heard it. I have never reported

these
